WuBB Tour 8: Picturesque waterways and animal inhabitants of floodplain landscapes
You start at the Datteln, Schleuse-Ahsen stop, which you can reach with bus line 288. You walk 8,6 km partly on the Wesel-Datteln Canal, partly through the Lippe-Auen until you cross the Lippe. After another 4 km you have the possibility to make a small detour of 0,6 km round trip to Steverstrand. Here is time for a break and you have a view of the three-arch bridge, which used to lead the Dortmund-Ems Canal over the Stever! Back to the Hohe Mark Steig you still have 3,2 km to go before you arrive at the natural pool in Olfen. From here, follow the X1 hiking trail for 2,6 km to the Olfen market.
Tips for on the go:
- Watch the lock of a ship in Ahsen, very interesting not only for children!
- Enjoy the view in the Lippeauen!
- Lunch break with a stop at the Steverstrand restaurant on the beautiful terrace or a picnic in the great outdoors
- Swimming in the natural pool in Olfen
- Stroll through town with ice cream in Olfen
